This moth family occurs worldwide, with 19 genera in three subfamilies. These small moths have metallic scales and are mostly day-flying and have a jerky, pivoting “dancing” behaviour, with their wings fluffed up at an extreme angle. Some have bright green metallic bands, while others have eyespots on the wings and have been shown to mimic jumping spiders.

Most species skeletonize leaves often among silken webbing, and foodplants of tropical species below to plant families Asteraceae, Betulaceae, Boraginaceae, Dipterocarpaceae, Fabaceae, Moraceae (mainly Ficus), Rosaceae, Sapindaceae and Urticaceae.
